Wildfire Mommas Taking Reins of Social Committee
Who are we? We
are a
group of women who came together during the wildfires last year. After the wildfires
it was decided that we
cannot just be there in times of crisis but we should be a means of
fellowship
for our community of Indigo Lakes. We
thank Denise Caldwell for bringing the idea of a weekly
lunch meeting to talk
and of course share great food. The
mommas are of diverse backgrounds
some have children in elementary, middle and
high school. There are even a few of us
with kids
in college and a few empty nesters.
As well as those whose children have four legs and even those
without
kids.
We welcome anyone who would like
to join us on Thursdays at noon. We
alternate between a home in the
neighborhood to checking out a restaurant in
our community. Our gatherings have seen
as many as twenty
women some weeks to as few as three or four.
This year the mommas decided to add giving
and a
basic pay it forward aspect to our group.
No pressure do what you can when you can or if you wish
to pass
altogether that is your prerogative. So
far this year we held a mock baby shower to gather
baby items for New Life
Pregnancy Crisis Center in Magnolia. At
another gathering we were able to
get enough donations together to sponsor a
horse at SIRE another local organization that uses horses
to help children with
disabilities. Our group spontaneously
put together a dinner for one of the families
who lost their daughter in a
terrible traffic accident. After some
discussion it was decided that as a
group we could take on the responsibility
of Indigo Lake Social Committee and leading the frontlines
for this part will
be myself, Yvonne Kaiser. Our first
event will be the Easter Egg Hunt which will be
held Good Friday, April 6 at 10
am. We look forward to holding a variety
of events and would love to
have anyone join us. We communicate our
events through our
Facebook group Wildfire Mommas.
